Originally built in 1886, she carried cargoes such as wine, oil and coal from Europe to various ports in the Pacific. Over the years, she was renamed a number of times, even appearing in the film Mutiny on the Bounty, until she was finally retired. In 1954 she was acquired by the San Francisco Maritime Museum and her original name was restored.
